Celebrating awards and happy moments at the International Young Dancer Competition!
These last few days have been very busy days for our beautiful talents that participated in the International Young Dancer Competition (IYDC) hosted at the Hong Kong Cultural Dancer in one of HK Ballet’s studios and Y Theater in Chai Wan. With 7 of our students involved in ballet and contemporary dance, the atmosphere at the school ahead of this event was buzzing during their warm-up and putting on their make-up and dresses. Competitions are a great opportunity for them to get used to perform and get more comfortable managing stage nerves. Anita had the courage to compete in her first solo competition. She was filled of memorable feelings and emotions throughout the day!

The growing popularity of IYDC was clear to see with more than hundreds of contestants across the day from 10am to nearly 8pm. More than 40 dancers were competing in the BALLET Solo & Duo III category (aged 10-12), where Aliana, Angela and Venusita participated and collected silver and golden awards! Venusita danced a beautiful Swanilda variation while Aliana and Angela danced Cupid variation and Graduation Ball respectively. Earlier on, Hannah with Bluebird and Anita with la fille mal gardée were on stage and performed admirably, gaining honourable mentions and most importantly a fantastic experience in competing with other talented dancers.

Following that, our Level 5 girls were in action and charmed the judges bringing back champion medals and 1st place in their category thanks to Bianca’s Black Swan and Miyu’s Gamzatti performance. Miyu and Venusita closed our Sunday participation with a contemporary dance of very high technical level collecting superb marks. Unfortunately, with Sophia and Coco recently injured (wishing them a prompt recovery), the group dance had to be cancelled but surely another opportunity to showcase it shall happen soon enough.

Four days later, we were back at it again with the same talents participating in the second part of the competition. After other great performances from everyone, and many trophies and medals later, you could only see big happy smiles on everyone’s face! 😊

Miss Venus was very proud of every one of them as their hard work, dedication and perseverance paid off. Their passion for ballet continues to grow and will surely accomplish more amazing results in the future. But most importantly, they all had a great experience to put into practice their long hours of training and a fun day out with their classmates. Next stop is the prestigious Prix de Lausanne’s Asia-Pacific Pre-selection 2024 in Macau for Bianca Rowley & Miyu Sugimoto at the end of this month…
